About This Workshop
Trauma is stored in parts of the body not accessed by words.  Thus, traditional talk therapy may not be the most direct way to help clients released these body-based memories and experiences.  In fact, current research determines that experiential therapies are becoming the therapies of choice for trauma survivors.  Bessel van der Kolk in The Body Keeps the Score references many action-based therapy programs as aiding trauma recovery.

This workshop will present the theory, neurobiology and foundation in accessible terms supporting the use of Expressive and Experiential Therapies with trauma survivors.  Methods and interventions will be presented in an interactive and hands-on manner.  Participants will be given time to practice the Containing/Body Double, Circle of Safety, Spectrograms, Comic Strip Method and several other approaches derived from the Therapeutic Spiral Model Psychodrama, Arts-based Therapy for Trauma Survivors and Action Method Approaches to Mindfulness.  This workshop is fully interactive with practical take home methods that can be put to use immediately with clients.
